Garden [workout]

I don't know what your spring is like, but today was so beautiful in Alaska that I couldn't not go outside and play in the dirt. Not every day do you have to work out in a boring way right? I wouldn't say walking is boring, but playing in the dirt? Hello...FUN.
So I put Oliver in the stroller and walked him around a few times till he fell asleep. He did so good the whole time I was out there, I was able to get so much done. And at the same time I was able to 'chuck it' with Mia. Don't know what a Chuck It is? You should look it up if you have a dog who loves balls. Its the best thing. Anyway back to gardening. I redid all the rocks in the rock boarder and dug up all the grass that made its way under. I don't know how much I am going to plan this year besides my herbs that I started inside. But I hope to get a few flowers from the nursery when they open later in the year.
How is gardening a work out? You can burn 272 calories in an hour just playing in the dirt. You actually have to be doing something though, you can't just lightly garden. You have to be hard core about it like I was this afternoon. I even put a tank top on. I am sure the temp is different then what is says [73] and its not in the direct sunlight, but still... there is no way in you know what that its that warm. So in my 2 hours of playing hard core in the dirt I burned myself  544 calories. Yeah its not as much as my two mile walks, but whatever I had a blast!
I am thinking that I am going to skip my walk one day a week to garden, when I start work back up it will have to be my day off that I do this. But until then...maybe I should spend every day out there when I get back from my walk... that sounds nice!
Do something fun this week instead of your normal workout, you deserve it!

  1. It was definitely a gorgeous day in Alaska in my area as well! I took a nice drive to pick up my nephew and got home in time to enjoy the sun while he ran around in the yard.
Hope the garden turns out great! I need to get out and break up my yard. Now that I know I'll burn that many calories, I may do it sooner!
