I am going to blog about my wonderful hard working man in this post and who knows how long it will get. For as long as we have been dating/engaged/married our summers are spend apart. I get to see my husband on weekends when I feel like driving 300+ miles or when he gets a long weekend and comes home to see me. He works long hot summer days usually up north were it can get into the 90's [yes it gets warm in Alaska too] and long long hours. I don't remember exactly what his longest day has been but trust me, its been almost 12hrs.
Yes I realize people have crazy jobs and do amazing things like being separated from their families and I only can see a glimpse into their lives. I get to see him sometimes, others go a year deployed with just a short home visit in between. So yes I don't have a lot to complain about and I am not really complaining. I am, in my own way saying that I love my husband because he takes good care of us while being miles away.
moving his 'home' north
For the first few years he would spend his summers in a ten man tent with a tv, computer, deep freeze and mini fridge. They camp out at what they call 'sections' and at these sections there usually is a Section House that has some sort of kitchen and shower/laundry area, if you are lucky you get a town close buy as well. Three summers ago he upgraded to his parents trailer and when I say trailer I mean moving trailer. His dad and him hooked it up with electricity via a heavy duty extension cord, so there is one light fixture as well as plug ins for his other needs. There are tricks too that you have to do in order to keep it all from tripping the spider box... its almost like living in the dark ages with luxuries. We sleep on a twin size bed too, that's always fun. Trains go right by all night, you get use to the sound after awhile but its crazy loud. I don't get much sleep when I visit him.
boys on a hike in Healy
On a normal day he runs a Tie Crane, which he makes stacks or empties stacks of rail tie. He also gets in plenty of Tetris playing time on his phone, reading, and resting. Which of course are all a NO NO. I often get calls to stating that he is bored and needs to talk; half the conversation I spend listening the other guys talking on the radios. He's a hard worker non the less and I know I could NEVER do his job. He use to be on the ground which entailed 'spanking anchers' and he would come home with clothing that was all
this now hangs next to my side of the bed so I can look
at it and remind myself how hard he works
I do have lots of memories from our summers apart, visiting him up north can be amazing. I have seen countless numbers of Moose, caribou, and a few bears... o and I forgot to mention the plethora of bunnies. We once did an eight mile hike in Denali when I was out of shape and we did it with some of his buddies...we were behind the whole time because my once then fat ass couldn't keep up and had to stop ALL the time. We then had an all you can eat dinner at one of the Hotels. That is just one memory I wont go into them all!
This whole post was brought on because tomorrow is his first day back to work, but they are working close to home. So for awhile I actually get to see him and make his lunch for him and place it in his very

But just because he is home doesn't mean its all fun and games, because he has decided to work TWO jobs. Yes two jobs. He is going to stay at his current part time job that works 9pm-2am come home sleep for a very little amount of time and then wake up at 5am to be at work at 6am... I think he is crazy and I am sure the thought has gone through his head too. But he is just trying to provide for us and still have his job this fall at the current place. He is going to try this for a week and it doesn't work out he will be doing something about it.
I know he doesn't read my blog and if he did I would probably die of shock. But this is me writing about how much I love and respect the man for working so damn hard in the summers and going to school full time in the winters all for me. I know everyone says it...but... I have the best husband ever! And the inside of his lunch box is a
He is my hero in boots that are
with a
on his head! I am proud to call him mine.
