Today I want to give you my view on acne and how it fits in with PCOS. Growing up I always had acne, and not just normal acne all over my face, I only got it along my jaw line. I never knew why, but I finally figured it out. It has been studied that women with PCOS have acne often appear on their jaw lines, chest, and back. Who doesn't hate acne? Everyone does, but since I started working out, and eating a little more healthy I have noticed that I only am getting acne every once in awhile. Maybe its when my body thinks I should be have my period, or maybe I am just a little more oily then. I did hear that dairy products and refined carbs have been known to affect acne, especially with women who have PCOS. Refined carbs have a high glycemic index and produce a lot more sugar into your body. That makes your body produce more insulin and increases your androgen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen) lvls, accommodating to sebum (oil) production leading to damn acne.
My cure: stop picking at the damn things and leave them alone. Cut pack on dairy, and yummy carbs.
But here are some daily things you can do at home to help fight stupid acne:
- Wash your face daily, twice a day. But becareful not to over do it and wash to much.
- Use mild soaps, and if it irritates your skin stop using it and change to something else.
- Keep your bedding clean, wash it once a week, especially your pillows
- Stay away from sugars and fried.
Hope this helps you a little bit, gotta go.

I try so hard to remember to pair carbs with protein but sometimes I slip too! And then I pay the price by feeling like crap.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I hear ya on the acne. Never had it until I gained weight 6 years ago. My skin used to be beautiful. Ugh, I hate PCOS.
