Alright, listen up. If you haven't read this book, you will love it. And if you have read the book you will know why. I am only on Chapter 2, but I have still learned a little more about PCOS than I already knew. The book is good, its simply said.
Acanthosis Nigricans and Skin Tags:
You are probably wondering what the hell Acanthosis Nigricans are. It is just another big fancy medical word, but it does have a meaning to it and you might have it. AN as I am going to call it because its to damn long to keep retyping, is that darn subtle dark skin that is velvety in appearance and feel. My sister first noticed it on my inner thighs when I was younger, and she thought right away "Hey I have that too." Come to find out that 10% of overweight women with PCOS have what is call AN. Its not only found on the inner thighs, but as well as the nape of the neck, in the armpits, and in your skin fold under your ta-tas. This darkened skin areas can be lightened with weight loss and treatment to lower you insulin lvls. Don't worry your not the only one who might look a funky in a bikini, or have darker armpits then everyone else. I've got it too!
Skin Tags happen to my husbands worst nightmare , every time he accidental touches one he cringes. I however could care less about them and just ignore them. But I did learn something about them. They are there because of the excess of insulin and implies that a person who has them is insulin resistant. They area benign growth, so don't go freaking out on anyone. My husband is always telling me to cut them off, or he jokes that he is going to cut them off in the sleep. Well I just read him a story from the book I am reading about a lady who did that with her nail scissors and got an infection... yeah he wont be do that to me. Go to a pro, someone who knows what they are doing like a dermatologist please.
